How does a granular fertilizer packaging machine work?

To understand how a granular fertilizer packaging machine operates, one can look at its workflow:

Step 1: Feeding Preparation.

Material is buffered in a hopper and transported to the pre-feeding zone via a vibrating feeder or screw conveyor. Simultaneously, the bag is manually positioned, and a bag-clamping mechanism automatically secures the bag opening to prevent spillage during filling.

Step 2: Multi-stage Feeding.

Most machines utilize a three-stage feeding mode: “fast, medium, and slow” The fast-feed stage fills the bag to 85%-90% of the target weight to maximize efficiency; the medium-feed stage fills it to 95%-98% to act as a buffer; and the slow-feed stage fine-tunes the remaining weight to ensure accuracy. Some machines use a two-stage (fast and slow) approach—feeding rapidly at first for efficiency, then switching to a slower speed as the target weight is approached to ensure precision.

Step 3: Dynamic Weighing and Monitoring.

The weigh hopper is equipped with high-precision sensors that capture real-time weight signals and transmit them to the PLC control system, which dynamically adjusts the feeding speed and cutoff timing. The system employs a PID algorithm to automatically compensate for "in-flight" material (drop weight) and suppress overshoot, adjusting the cutoff point for the current bag based on the weight deviation of the previous bag.

Step 4: Filling.

The system verifies that the bag is securely clamped; once confirmed, it opens the discharge gate of the weigh hopper, allowing the material to fall into the bag.

Step 5: Sealing and Conveying.

After filling, a vibration mechanism gently shakes the bag to release air and shape the contents, followed by sealing via heat sealing or a bag-stitching machine. The clamping mechanism releases the bag, and the finished package is transported to the next stage (palletizing), completing the packaging cycle.

The entire process is automated by the PLC control system, with operators primarily responsible for monitoring.
