



The chain plate compost turning machine (also known as a chain plate compost turner) is specialized equipment designed for deep-trench aerobic fermentation processes. It utilizes a chain-driven, roller-supported chain-plate mechanism in which high-strength digging hoppers——mounted on the chain plates——collect, lift, scatter, and redeposit material at a constant speed, thereby ensuring the forced turning and aeration of the fermenting material.The machine's main frame spans the fermentation trench and travels longitudinally along rails mounted on the trench walls; a turning carriage is positioned on this frame, housing the turning components and the hydraulic system.
The working principle of the chain plate compost turning machine can be summarized in four continuous stages: material pickup, lifting, scattering, and returning to position.
After the main frame travels along the fermentation tank rails to the designated turning location, the turning mechanism on the carriage is lowered slowly into the tank via a hydraulic system. The turning component (the chain plate) begins to rotate continuously, scooping up material from the tank and conveying it diagonally to the rear of the frame, where it is deposited to form a new windrow. The material remains on the carrying plates for an extended period; after being scattered from a height, it comes into full contact with the air, thereby facilitating forced oxygenation and moisture evaporation.
Upon completing a pass along the tank, the hydraulic system lifts the turning mechanism to a height that clears the material, and the entire frame——along with the carriage——retracts to the starting end of the tank. For wide tanks, the carriage can shift laterally by the width of one chain-plate assembly to begin turning the next section of material. Tank widths typically range from 2 to 9 meters, requiring between 1 and 5 operational passes to fully turn the material in a given tank.
Through this method of “section-by-section turning and cyclic operation” the material moves steadily and incrementally backward within the tank at regular intervals, establishing a continuous aerobic fermentation process.
