How NPK Fertilizer is Made from Raw Materials

2026/06/02

NPK compound fertilizer is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, making it the most widely used high-efficiency fertilizer in modern agriculture. The production of high-quality fertilizer relies on standardized and meticulous NPK production line operations. From scattered raw materials to uniform and well-formed finished granules, NPK fertilizer undergoes multiple closed-loop processes, with each step strictly controlled to ensure balanced nutrients and stable quality.

The first step in production is raw material pretreatment and intelligent batching. The raw materials used in production, such as urea, ammonium phosphate, and potassium chloride, are mostly in block or coarse powder form. They are first finely ground using crushing equipment to remove impurities and standardize particle size, allowing all raw materials to fully release their activity. Subsequently, an automatic batching system accurately measures the proportions of various raw materials according to the fertilizer formula for different crops, effectively avoiding errors from manual batching and ensuring accurate nutrient ratios from the source to meet the growth needs of different crops.
After batching, the core process of mixing and granulation begins. The precisely proportioned raw materials are fed into a double axis paddles  mixer for thorough mixing and blending, ensuring a uniform distribution of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium nutrients. The uniformly mixed materials are conveyed to a rotary drum granulator, where steam humidification and roller extrusion cause the loose powder to agglomerate and form fertilizer granules of initially uniform size. This process directly determines the appearance and efficacy of the fertilizer.
The formed granules then undergo drying, cooling, and sieving. Freshly granulated granules have a high moisture content and soft texture, making them prone to clumping and spoilage. The production line uses hot air drying equipment to remove excess moisture, followed by air cooling to cool and shape the granules, improving their hardness and stability. Subsequently, a multi-layer sieving system selects qualified granules of uniform size, removing powder and substandard granules to ensure consistent finished product quality.
Finally, the granules undergo coating and automatic packaging to complete the finished product processing. The coating process attaches an anti-caking protective layer to the qualified granules, extending the fertilizer's shelf life and enhancing its slow-release effect. Finally, automated packaging equipment completes quantitative filling, sealing, and palletizing, and the neatly packaged NPK finished product is ready for storage and sale. The entire production process is highly efficient and seamless, achieving standardized mass production of fertilizers and providing a solid guarantee for scientific fertilization and stable yields and increased income in agriculture.
