Which granulators can be used for wet granulation?

2025/08/04

Among many granulation processes, wet granulation is widely used due to its unique advantages. It moistens the surface of the material particles and creates a sticky texture. Mechanical forces agglomerate the particles into balls, which are then dried to form hard granules. The following introduces several granulators commonly used for wet granulation.

Disc granulators are commonly used for wet granulation. During operation, the material tumbles continuously within a rotating disc, where it is agglomerated into granules by spraying a binder or water. Parameters such as the disc's speed and inclination can be adjusted according to the material's characteristics and particle size requirements, enabling the production of granules of varying sizes. Its simple structure and easy operation make it suitable for granulating a wide range of materials, and it is widely used in industries such as organic fertilizer and chemicals.
Rotary drum granulators are also suitable for wet granulation and are ideal for large-scale continuous production. As the material tumbles within the drum, it is agglomerated into granules by spraying a binder or water. They offer high production efficiency and rapid granulation speed, meeting the needs of large-scale production. They are commonly found in large-scale organic fertilizer production plants. Combined with automated drying lines, their production capacity can reach over 50 tons per hour.
New type organic fertilizer granulators also play a role in wet granulation. They utilize a high-speed rotating tine structure within the machine to produce intense stirring and shearing action on the material. After adding water or a binder, the tine action thoroughly mixes, kneads, and aggregates the material into granules. Their strong stirring force ensures full contact between the material and the binder, resulting in uniform granulation. They are also effective for materials with high viscosity or medium fiber content.
In summary, all three granulators are effective equipment for wet granulation. With their different structures and operating principles, they play an important role in different production scenarios, providing strong support for the smooth and efficient implementation of the wet granulation process and promoting the development of related industries.
